How to pick the right Minecraft version

Open the Minecraft launcher and note your installed version (e.g. 1.21.4). Match that version on our list, or choose the closest patch your server supports. Many networks run a single “latest” jar and accept any 1.21.x client; others require an exact build—check each listing’s version tags and description.

Older versions (1.8.9 PvP, 1.12.2 modpacks, 1.16.5 modded) remain popular for minigames and legacy communities. Sort by players online to find active populations, or by votes for long-running favorites.

Java Edition versions on server lists

Version pages on MinecraftServer.Buzz list Java Edition servers tagged for that release. Bedrock uses a separate version scheme; browse Bedrock or Cross-Play gamemodes if you play on console or mobile. When a listing shows multiple versions, the server typically supports a range—connect with the version named in the server MOTD or listing details.
